Terra Loco 5K Runs  


Rochester, Minnesota running store, Terra Loco, has consistently sponsored Hugs from Hunter Foundation on their charity night 5k runs. The photos to the right are from the Terra Loco run that occurred March 27th, 2017. This specific run happened to fall on what would have been Hunter's 18th birthday. It was a great way to gather people together to celebrate Hunter's life.

U.S. Energy and Western Petroleum Holiday Party Plymouth, Minnesota

In 2013 U.S. Energy Services became a subsidiary of World Fuel Services. By doing so the MN employees of Western Petroleum, another subsidiary of World Fuel Services, became a part of their extended family and joined USES at the Christmas Santa Party. For the second year in a row USES sponsored Hugs From Hunter Foundation by donating fleece material and giving the employees and their families an opportunity to tie blankets. Bears were also on hand for families to sponsor by buying and naming the bear that will be given to children in need. 

Warrior Dash 2012
Twin Cities, Minnesota

Hunter's Mom, Teresa Biermeier, convinced friends and family that it was a "good idea" to participate in the Twin Cities' Warrior Dash in June, 2012. They created a team in memory of Hunter and named it, "Sexy Unicorns" after his Fantasy Football team.  Everyone survived the day, most finished the race, at least one person skipped to the end of the course;  but, everyone enjoyed the day. 
Every October, Hugs from Hunter teams up with Christ Community Church in Rochester, MN, to put on a waffle breakfast. The tradition started, as a fundraiser for Hugs from Hunter and for the church youth missions, but has quickly become a family favorite. In addition to all-you-can-eat Belgium waffles, sausage, and toppings; this year we added faceprinting and balloon animals. If you have not made it to one of these family-fun breakfasts, be sure to check it out next year! We would love to see you there! All of the proceeds Hugs from Hunter receives, goes to comforting children in need.

Christ Community Church, Rochester, MN and the Hugs from Hunter Foundation Waffle Breakfast

On April 20th 2013, the Hugs From Hunter Foundation had it's first official fundraiser. At the Christ Community Church in Rochester, MN, where Hunter was a active member, the Youth Mission group and our charity worked together to raise money for both our foundation and a mission trip to Cleveland, Ohio.  Christ Community Church was kind and welcomed our foundation and treated us like family.  Dad's Belgium Waffles also helped by providing our foundation with an amazing jumpstart to our annual Waffle Breakfast.  The bears and blankets funded at the breakfast will be are distributed to children in need right in Rochester.  In addition to the Youth Group raising money to fund their trip the foundation sent 15 bears and blankets on their mission trip for children in Cleveland.  We had an overwhelmingly amount of support from the Rochester community and are so thankful for a successful breakfast.

San Diego, CA, International Convention

In April of 2013 Hunter's cousin and one of the founders, Marli Overgard, won a prestigious award.  Marli along with her family and friends traveled to San Diego, California, to attend the AFP International Convention where she received the 2013 Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy Award from the Association of Professional Fundraisers.  In addition to receiving the award the group had the privilege of meeting top philanthropists from around the world and explore the sites of San Diego.  The AFP created a video for the introduction of Marli and her award, then, Marli gave an acceptance speech with co-founder, Molly Young, on stage next to her.  It was an amazing experience for all of us to see how Marli and the Hugs from Hunter Foundation was recognized.   Our sincere thanks goes to the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation and the AFP Wisconsin, Upper Mississippi Valley Chapter for nominating Marli.

Every year we visit a few tournaments in Rochester, MN.  Depending on the tournament we sell cookies, t-shirts, bracelets and candy as a way to promote the Hugs from Hunter Foundation and keep Hunter's home town involved.  Hunter played and his Dad, Kyle, coached in both of these leagues.  Hunter had amazing friends and team mates that we appreciate and we are so grateful for the continued support of Hunter's legacy.  

It is also a way to get our name out and we are amazed at the generosity of people when they have never heard of us before. The Hugs from Hunter Foundation thanks everyone who has donated to us at a tournament. We go out there and stay from the early morning to late at night. Every minute counts because of the kind donations people give us at these events.

In November, 2012, co-founders, Molly Young and Marli Overgard visited the hospital where Hunter died.  This was their second visit and this time they brought Hunter's sister, Elli, along with other family members to see the amazing impact Hunter's bears and blankets were having on children. 

Heather Armstrong, Anchor, at WXOW TV 19 in La Crosse followed the girls around, interviewed recipients of the bears and blankets along with the hospital staff and flight crew at MedLink AIR on the impact the gifts have on their patients.  We really appreciate the amazing and heartwarming feature story Heather created.

We are so grateful for the relationships we have with the staff at the hospital and foundation.   We especially want to thank Kari Christenson, Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation, and Heather Gilles, Program Manager, for the Children's Miracle Network Hospital at Gundersen for all of their support.
